Tango on the Seine

The weather today was hot...got up to 88 degrees.  We were tired after walking Paris in the morning & early afternoon, so we passed on the afternoon milonga knowing we had the Seine in the evening.

The outdoor site is right on the water, you could fall in from the dance floor except shoes & belongings are lined up forming sort of a barrier.  The floor surface is granite blocks, mostly smooth, but uneven & has lots of cracks.  You won't do your best tango here.  There is a beginner lesson until about 8:30; they hang around to dance for awhile.  The more experienced dancers come later.

The tango lesson before dark.

After the lesson and as dark set in, the dancing began.

You can sort of see the belongings lined up on the right.

Tango, the Seine & a full moon.  Find me a better combination.

The above view was looking up-river.  This is down-river.

Susanne chatting with Marty from Stamford, CT.

Marty took this photo.

Imane is a cute little beginner.  Said she's come for five nights of tango lessons.

Susanne and one of the young swains who asked her to dance.

This vid turned out the best.  It gives a sense of both tango and a dinner cruise and how they can interact.

As we left the tango group, we discovered that there was lots more going on along the Seine than just tango.  There were other dance groups (salsa) and just plain drinkin' & smokin' weed (the aroma is unmistakable).  I zoomed in on one group out of many.  The booze to food ratio was somewhat lopsided.

The Parisians really value these lovely late summer evenings.  Especially since they had a terrible July, cold & rainy.  When winter arrives, it is nasty.  Wind, cold driving rain, gloom for days on end.  I was here on business in Dec. 1984 on two such days.  It was just before meeting Jeff & Carole in Athens for our trip to Greece & Israel.
